About Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient therapy based on the theory that certain points on the feet and hands correspond to different areas in the body. Reflexologists believe that working these points increases relaxation and aids wellbeing. Reflexologists do not diagnose, prescribe, or claim to cure. As a holistic therapist, I aim to treat the whole person, as the unique individual that you are. After a treatment, you may feel relaxed, sleep better, and feel a general sense of improved wellbeing. You may find that other things improve too, but as an individual experience, the only way to find out what reflexology does for you is to try it for yourself.
I have experience of treating those with insomnia, neck and back problems, migraines, digestive issues, anxiety, sinus and respiratory problems, plus children and babies. I am experienced in treating children with special needs and disabilities. If you have any questions about treatments for you or a loved one, please call or email, I would be happy to help.
When I first arrive at your home, I will set up my relaxation chair and ask you to make yourself comfortable and remove any shoes and socks while we discuss your health and lifestyle. I will ask you to sign a consent form agreeing to the treatment. Anything you tell me is treated in the strictest of confidence. After a short foot massage to relax you and your feet, I will apply gentle pressure to the various reflex points in your feet (hand reflexology is also offered where appropriate). Sometimes the points are tender, but this should pass and the overwhelming feeling should be one of relaxation. Each reflexology treatment lasts just under one hour. At the end we will discuss how you felt during the treatment, and I may make suggestions about further sessions. Occasionally, people experience a mild headache, feelings of tiredness or needing the toilet more often after their treatment. This is normal and rarely lasts into the following day.
Reflexology for babies and children
For treatments on babies and children, the session is often shorter than one hour and parents/guardians are asked to remain in the room throughout the treatment. I am happy to show the adult simple techniques which may help alleviate the child's symptoms, for example for a colicky baby or a toddler with croup or constipation. The child may prefer to be seated on a sofa instead of my chair and that is fine. Most children settle very well during the treatment and for that reason, other distractions such as television or toys should be kept to a minimum but may be used if required (comforters such as favourite teddies are welcome).
I am always happy to discuss any questions you may have.
Gentle Touch Reflexology (TM) for babies and children
This is a gentle, child-centred approach to a treatment in order to derive the maximum benefits for your child. I am fully trained in this approach and have found it extremely beneficial when working with children, especially those who are usually extremely active.
